The XIX Canary Islands Winter School of Astrophysics (WS), organized by the
Instituto de Astrofisica de Canarias (IAC), is dedicated this year to the study
of the Cosmic Microwave Background. The WS welcomes a maximum of 70 PhD
students and young Post-Docs, and provides each year a unique opportunity for the
participants to broaden their knowledge in a key field of Astronomy.
The WS will include an introduction to the physics of the CMB, observational
techniques, diagnostic tools and codes. It will review existing and planned
experiments with a description of the analysis methods involved and the
constraints imposed on cosmological models. This will be complemented by an
overview of galactic and extragalactic foregrounds, as well as a summary of
other major cosmological probes.
Lecturers and Topics*
- Sabino Matarrese (The Inflationary Universe).
- Wayne Hu (Theory of primordial CMB anisotropies: temperature and polarization).
- Bruce Partridge (CMB observations and cosmological constraints)
- Matthias Bartelmann (CMB fluctuations in the post-recombination Universe).
- Rod D. Davies (Galactic and extragalactic foregrounds).
- Licia Verde (Statistical techniques for data analysis in Cosmology).
- Enrique Martinez Gonzalez (Gaussianity).
- Malcolm Longair (Other probes in Fundamental Cosmology).
* Each topic will be delivered as four one-hour presentations.
Organizing Committee: R. Rebolo, J.A. Rubino-Martin, F. Sanchez
