Postdoctoral Fellowship in Cosmology at University of Oslo

Post by Hassani Farbod » December 06 2023

The Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics (ITA) at the University of Oslo, invites applicants to a two-year position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Cosmology. The start date for this position is September 1, 2024.

The candidate will work on the "NEVO: illuminating the dark cosmos" project, funded by the Research Council of Norway and led by Dr. Farbod Hassani.

The main objective of the project is to identify viable dark energy candidates and provide a comprehensive understanding of their behavior, including their time evolution and spatial distribution across a wide range of scales, with the precision required by future surveys, particularly the Euclid mission. To achieve this objective, the physical understanding of dark energy candidates will be combined with state-of-the-art simulations and high-resolution observations delivered by Euclid. The successful candidate will join the Euclid consortium and collaborate with Dr. Farbod Hassani, Prof. David Mota and Dr. Hans Winther at the institute. We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in dark energy and modified gravity theories, cosmological N-body simulations and Einstein-Boltzmann codes. Prior experiences with the gevolution or hi-class codes is desirable, but not necessary. In selection, the academic quality and promise of the candidates will be of primary importance.

We offer:
• Salary NOK 575 400 – 624 500 per annum depending on qualifications in position as Postdoctoral Research Fellowship
• Attractive welfare benefits and a generous pension agreement
• Professionally stimulating working environment
• Vibrant international academic environment
• Postdoctoral development programmes
• Oslo’s family-friendly surroundings with their rich opportunities for culture and outdoor activities

Qualification requirements:
• Applicants must hold a degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in astrophysics, physics or a related field. Only applicants with an approved doctoral thesis and public defense are eligible for appointment.
• Candidates with one or more of the following expertise are strongly encouraged to apply: dark energy and modified gravity theories; cosmological N-body simulations; Einstein-Boltzmann codes (such as hi-class); processing of large simulation datasets and catalogues; machine learning techniques.
• Fluent oral and written communication skills in English.

The application deadline is the 8th of January, 2024.
